The project of 24 Houses for RIVA HOME in Nenzing (Vorarlberg, Austria) is under construction. Housing in the rural environment, dealing with the scale of village structures and regional and cultural tradition, are the main concepts of this project.
We are very pleased that the house we designed for the Reithner family in Shaan, Liechtenstein, is featured in the March 2021 issue of Bauen + Wohnen Vaterland magazine. A great report with excellent photographs by Alicia Olmos Ochoa, information about the house and a long interview with the architects. They have also dedicated the cover of the magazine to us. Many thanks to Lars Beck, journalist, for his excellent work. You can see the whole article and read the interview in this link: epaper_Magazine_20210302-1_reportaje
The 24 town houses in Nenzing, Vorarlberg (Austria), promoted by the real estate developer RIVA HOME and designed by olmos ochoa arquitectos have just started. Some of the objectives of the project were to build contemporary housing in rural structures, the contact with nature, enjoying wide views, respecting certain scales, in order to build affordable and attractive housing for young people with a distinct quality of life.
The main material of the House in Schaan (Liechtenstein) is white brick. A material that remained from the beginning of the project. This same brick has been used to build some well-known buildings that have served as models for us. The German firm Hebrok has important references to its credit among which we are proud to be part of. https://www.privatziegelei-hebrok.de/referenzen/architektenhaus-efh-3519 Those bricks were chosen in order to achieve durability, stability, expressiveness and elegance. They are solid «hand-molded klinker», measuring 240x115x52, colour «Farina». They are manufactured using a «water-beat process», whose special characteristics and optical properties are: non-rectangular prismatic formation, uneven...
Phase 0, consisting of the dismantling of the ruined structure and the cleaning of the walls, in addition to the archaeological work, was completed in February 2021. Together with our collaborators, Javier Vázquez, architect and Manuel Cuquejo, technical architect, the archaeologist Rosa Villar has supervised the work and will send a report with the historical reading of the walls and her conclusions to the Galician Heritage department. This report will accompany the Pazo de Quintáns Project, which is ready for processing.
Re-visiting the house that we built in an old agricultural complex in Cabanillas de la Sierra (2012). We love how it looks, thanks to Horten and Miguel, the owners, who have an enormous care for the house. We have just remembered the words that we wrote for the publication: “The owners of the complex, very sensitive to all these values, had a close dialogue with the architects, looking for better ideas and the most appropriate solutions”
Our new office in Vorstadt 9, Feldkirch is a former ground floor space with two adjoining vaulted rooms, thick walls and a magnificent, unique window onto the street. We are very happy to start this new phase. With some few furniture but a lot of enthusiasm we hope to have the opportunity to project many buildings and make a small name for ourselves in this Region.
We have waited a long time for this moment. The first work on the Pazo site began on Monday 23 November 2020. This is Phase 0: «Tasks of debris removal, cleaning and archaeological prospecting». This work is being carried out with great care, with the dismantling of the elements in the opposite process to construction. As the work progresses, a whole series of traces are revealed that show different types of stonework and different moments of construction. These traces will have to be interpreted during the archaeological work and will allow an orderly reading of the historical construction phases.
We are grateful to the Reithner family who trusted us and motivated us to make this project a house we are very proud of and where joy can be felt in every corner.
Also thanks to Teresa Rädler, assistant, and to all the students of Csaba´s group. They made a great job!
A book published by the University of Liechtenstein, Institute of Architecture and Planning Ed. Urs Meister, Vera Kaps, with the Chapter «Transparency and Depth» by Victor Olmos and Csaba Tarsoly about The Maravillas Gym of Alejandro de la Sota. s. 50-57
Painting has always been and now, even more, has become a very important part of my life. The impulse of my friends has given me the courage to show my paintings in an exhibition, that will take place in Feldkirch during the following two months. The landscapes of Vorarlberg and the Rheintal have inspired me, as before Madrid or Cantabria did.
Celebrating the 800 years of Feldkirch’s history, Gloria Ochoa was invited to take part in this event. The Monforthaus organized an original dialog set: some people born in Feldkirch who carry out successful careers abroad, together with new foreign citizens who have come here to stay, contributed with their ideas about the present and the future of Feldkirch.
Thanks to Urs and Uli for the opportunity to work together and design such a nice building!
Since 2016 Gloria Ochoa is member of the Kammer der Ziviltechnikerinnen of Tirol and Vorarlberg. In a very pleasant event, Gloria Ochoa received formally from the Representant of the Architekten Kammer the credentials which certify her competency as Architect for Tirol and Vorarlberg.
Organised by Professor Urs Meister, Csaba Tarsoly and Víctor Olmos gave a Pecha Kucha lecture about Gimnasio Maravillas (Alejandro de la Sota) at the Universität Liechtenstein. There will be soon a publication with all the contributions.
We have just got the second prize! in this competition, together with Urs Hüssy and Uli Mayer, architects in Triesen, and with Andrea Schwoerer, lanscape architect in Sankt Gallen. Thanks to this well organized competition by the City Council Au, we had the chance to give our best ideas about how to create a «center» in a village which slowly is evolving in a small town. This new Center would accomodate the offices for the City Council, a Commercial Center, the Church-House, and new dwellings.
August_2017, in our way back to Austria, we made another stop. Geneva, a wonderful city, hides (it is not so easy to find) the Maison Clartè. Iron, wood, and beton in a wise combination define another masterpiece of the modern architecture. It seems to have been renovated, and it looks like brand new!
July-August_2017 Santander has inaugurated its own «landmark», the new building for the Fundación Botín is a fine work of Renzo Piano. Some of its better achievements are the generosity with the open spaces, the free accesibility to the building’s terraces without entering into the building, the different appearance of the enveloping reflecting the colour of the sky or the sea, and furthermore, the excellent exhibition of the Goya drawings. It deserves a drive or a flight!
July_2017, In our way to Cantabria for holidays we bumped into La Tourette! We stopped there to pay tribute to Le Corbusier. It remains fresh, violent, daring. It won’t ever get old. we remembered the first time we visited the place with our friend Angel Panero and spent a couple of nights there in 1985!
We went with our car from Austria to Denmark, all the way north through Germany, to visit our son in Copenhagen. We couldn’ help visiting again some places which had such a big influence in our work. With permission from Mr Jakobsen and Mr Utzon 🙂
January_2017, the real estate company AEDAS invited us to take part in a competition for a building of 30 dwellings in a fantastic plot in the very old centre of Madrid, el Rastro. We were very close to win it. 2nd place. A collaboration with Javier Arango.
Participating in an Italian competition along with our friend and colleague, the Architect from Vicenza, Stefano Presi: Remodelation of the Viale Verdi in the city of Merate. We have designed a “Slow Traffic Place” where Bicycles and Pedestrians occupy the centre of a new Boulevard. We also designed the traffic and info signals. December 2016
We are very pleased to introduce you our new web page www.olmosochoa.com with a new layout and new projects. It is organized in four chapters: Projects, About, News and Contact, and it has a link to the former olmos ochoa web page where you can find the “oldiest”. As well as the former web page, this one has been developed with the professional help of Jose Ortega, owner of www.unoynueve.com, an enterprise based in Madrid that has more than 15 years of experience in the field of designing, consultancy and managing digital works.
The last 28th October 2016, under the direction of Prof. Valentín Berriochoa and Víctor Olmos, David García Asenjo has defended his Doctoral Thesis at the ETSAM in Madrid: Estrategias de Proyecto en la Arquitectura Sacra Contemporánea Española (Project Strategies in the Spanish Contemporary Sacred Architecture). This work has received the qualification of Distinction Cum Laude given by the prestigious Tribunal: Alberto Campo Baeza, Eduardo Delgado Orusco, Silvia Blanco Agüeira, Angel Cordero Ampuero y Ricardo Gómez Val.
Motivated by the Thesis, recently defended at the ETSAM by our friend Carlos Asensio Wandosell, whose title is La arquitectura de la Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm, de la objetividad a la revolución (The architecture of the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm, from objectivity to revolution), we travelled to the german medieval city of Ulm to pay a visit to the fantastic building by the swiss architect Max Bill. We were highly impressed by the naturalness of how it stands on the site, by the intensity of the inner and outer routes, by the simplicity of the constructive details, by the logical...
Gloria Ochoa and Victor Olmos have visited the Architectural Biennale in Venice, Italy. We were highly impressed by the big scale models of Inokuma Architects at the Japanese Pavilion and their intention to enhance and dignify the everyday scenes. We would also want to congratulate our friends Iñaki Carnicero and Valentín Quintas for their excellent work at the spanish Pavilion that have merited to win the Leone d’Oro as the best national participation.
In collaboration with the office Hüssy + Mayer (Urs Hüssy and Uli Mayer), Triesen (FL) we have participated in the competition of the renovation and extension of the School Ebenholz in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The project includes a lightly refurbished former old building, a totally renovated school surrounded by wide terraces, an extension of the former gym with the same structure principle as the existing one and a new day-school, half buried due to the steep slope, with an open light pavilion on top. Every edifice has its own character but belonging to a unique constellation. White-concrete-prefabricated-facade-elements and colourful ceilings give unity to...
Along with Stefano Presi (Vicenza) and Javier Fernandez Alen (Bregenz), we have participated in the Urban Competition of the Leutbüchel Areal in Bregenz. Our proposal paved the whole area with cobblestones and stone slabs taking care of existing lines and organizing specific areas. We replace the old fountain as a hinge in Leutbüchel square, recalling the italian Piazza de la Signoria-Piazza delle Erbe. A set of Baum-Brunne-Bank (Tree-Fountain-Bench) points out certain places, providing pleasant stops along the irregular streets of the old city. Two long distance perspectives to a prominent but empty old dividing wall gave us the idea to...
