2016_house-in-schaan Download pdf EFH-SCHAAN Broschüre 2020_olmosochoa architekten Download pdf Räumlich Step by step this house has been gradually reaching its own personality. At the very beginning, the most important idea was the in-between space; a place as a space-cushion between inside and outside, that we considered our personal „spanish contribution“, if we can use that term, opposed to a local view of architecture, more focussed in the rotundity of volumes and a bit affraid to break the paralelepipedic form. This space between was defined in the groundfloor by a broken line of huge windows towards West and the garden, and in section,...

2014 Day Care Centre for Alzheimer’s patients Madrid, Spain
Friendly – Functional The objectives of our client to fulfil were to have a functional place, modern but not cold, friendly environment, optimistic, forward-looking, confortable and sure. The greatest possible natural light had to be achieved. Versatility of the rooms. We designed a space with two strong elements: Colour and Glas. With only one façade, the challenge was how to bring the maximum of light in the interior. The reflections of the coloured glass and the effect of the gradation of the colour as one goes in the furthest rooms, helped us to get it. The white, bare façade, simple...

2006-2008 Research Centre FIDAMC. Scientific and Technological Park Getafe Sur
COMPLEX PROGRAM – CLEAR ANSWERS The main purpose of this building is to house an important research centre linked to the European aeronautical industry. FIDAMC (in Spanish: Foundation for research, development and applications of new composite materials) is a building with few elements, but of great complexity that gathered the headquarters’ offices, two big hangars, laboratories and all the facilities that supplies the complex. The way that the buildings are placed allow eventual and future extensions. The buildings are divided in several volumes separated by courtyards and connected by glazed fingers. Gardens and trees provide views and relax to the...
2003-2006 Multi-purpose building and VIP dinning rooms EADS / CASA, Getafe
NATURAL LIGHT AND ACOUSTIC TREATMENT The client’s demands for the EADS factory in Getafe were to provide spaces for common services such as dining halls, kitchen, changing and meeting rooms. After some proposals, the demands were attended annexing two buildings, in two steps of construction, to the existing volume of the dining and kitchen’s edifice, solving the complexity of connections and circulations. The first building is the extension of the staff dinning room, and it was planned to be executed in a short period of time. It has a rectangular plan covered with a metallic structure of 18,00m long beams...
2001-2005 Social Housing, locals and public offices in Sanchinarro, Madrid
A BLOCK WITH LIFE The constructed block of social houses is one of the new quarters situated in the outskirts of Madrid, planned by the city hall for big and closed blocks for only residential purposes, lack of urban density, with no shops in the ground floors, and streets out of scale, as some of the main mistakes of this urban design. olmos ochoa arquitectos’ studio won a restricted competition organised by EMV (in Spanish, municipal housing enterprise). Our first decision was to open the building to the neighbourhood and to be part of the city. Therefore, three passages connect...
1995-2004 Social housing for young people in Vigo
INTERACTION IN AN OLD HISTORICAL ENVIRONMENT These dwellings were designed taking into account the characteristics of the site, such as topography and the scale of the environment, history and social relationships. The structural systems, as long as the evacuation of rain water, the orientation, the sun exposure, the natural lighting and ventilation were carefully chosen focusing the future, the maintenance and the energetic demand. The plot has a height difference of 15,00 meters, and It is located in the upper section of the old centre of the town, among traditional stone buildings in quite a poor condition. The project prolongs...
1998-2003 Clinic Santa Isabel. ASISA, Seville
RENOVATION AND SUBSTITUTION The aim of this project was to adequate the Clinic of Santa Isabel in Seville to new demands and to solve, with a global concept, a number of different problems derived from many particular interventions. Among several interventions, the main work was to arise a new building substituting an old one, providing a better connection and integration among all the services. According to urban regulations, the new building had to maintain the same area aboveground level of the demolished one, but its area could be increased underground with two cellars for storage rooms, parking places and facilities...
2000-2002 EF-2000 Headquarters. EADS / CASA, Getafe
ARCHITECTURE FOR ENGINEERS We were asked to design a new building next to another one and both stacked to a hangar of aircraft. The project followed the lines marked by the existing structures but, at the same time, visible independent from them. Some elements contribute to this attitude: a huge canopy emphasises the entrance and protects it from sun and rain; a beautiful main staircase with a characteristic light wheel, and a subtle bending of the facade to the south side that gives certain style to the silhouette of the edifice. Divided into different levels, the offices are located in...
1997-2002 Clinic Perpetuo Socorro. ASISA, Lleida
ADDITION AND PROPORTION We were in charge of the complete renovation of the Perpetuo Socorro’s Clinic, an eclectic building that occupies the corner defined by the Bisbe Messeguer Street and Alcalde Sol Street, in the Catalan city of Lerida. Our aim was to protect the main values, recovering the quality and dignity of the old building, which have suffered a lot of refurbishments without a unique architectural criterion, and to provide a new functionality open to new deals in medicine and hospital management. From an architectural point of view, the project enlarges the existing building in two directions: horizontally, by...
1996-2000 Clinic Jerez. ASISA, Jerez de la Frontera
A PALACE-LIKE HOSPITAL This project is the result of a team’s work of a group of medical doctors, technicians and architects. The complexity of the relationships between functions and circulating spaces define the formal solutions; every functional requirement has to find its own position; the project deals with the dimensions of the rooms, the size of each technical area, the adjusted proportions and relationships between main areas and circulating areas, and the result of it is a compact and well-organized building. One of the most interesting approaches of this project is to have designed an average patient room. Its shape...
1992-1996 Pelayos de la Presa Town Hall, Madrid
REPRESENTATIVE ARCHITECTURE AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION The new Town Hall of Pelayos de la Presa, a small village at the southwest of Madrid, tries to react to the different circumstances of its location. On one side, it offers its main façade and its entrance to the Plaza, facing South, the daily meeting point, the place for the important events of the village. At the west side of the building the Ancha Street (which means Broadway), serves to ease the crowd concentrations that gather at the Plaza during festivities. Towards the street, architecture tries to reach the objective with the minimum quantity...
1989- 1993 Social housing in Vallecas, Madrid
CITY VERSUS VILLAGE In a boundary area of the former Vallecas village, today a district of the city of Madrid, a new concept of urban life is possible. The idea is to build “City life”: the city of the streets and facades, but also the walls and the patios. Public, community, private and intimate spaces, from the street to the intimacy, provide a handful of interesting situations in which this project reflects upon. The way the buildings are placed in each plot takes into account the topography and the relation between the connecting elements, and talk of a different understanding...
